India’s Cotton Pressing Estimate Raised to 339 Lakh Bales

India’s cotton outlook has improved, with the Cotton Association of India (CAI) revising its estimate for the 2025–26 cotton season upward to 339 lakh bales of 170 kg each.

The latest estimate is around 11% higher than CAI’s initial projection of 305 lakh bales and 8.5% above the estimated 312.4 lakh bales for the 2024–25 season. The upward revision follows updated assessments from cotton-growing states and trade sources.

Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu have contributed to the latest increase, while adjustments were also made for Rajasthan. CAI has also projected cotton imports at around 62 lakh bales for the current season.

Domestic cotton consumption is expected to remain strong, with CAI estimating consumption at 348 lakh bales for the season. Higher production and imports are expected to increase overall cotton availability and support the Indian textile industry.

What It Means for Textile Buyers

Higher cotton availability could provide greater sourcing opportunities for Indian textile manufacturers, exporters and bulk buyers, particularly for cotton yarn, fabrics and finished cotton textile products. Buyers sourcing from India may benefit from improved availability as the new season progresses.
